Get to the heart of Canadians

For more than 50 years, the Heart and Stroke Foundation has been on a mission to improve the health of Canadians. Along with funding leading research and educating Canadians on the importance of a healthy lifestyle, we continue to advocate for changes to public policy at all levels of government in the interest of building healthy communities and a healthier country.

Our corporate partners are supporting the Foundation in its efforts to eliminate heart disease and stroke, the leading cause of death in Canada. The philanthropic efforts of some of Canada's leading corporations support public education programs, fundraising events and product promotions that raise millions of dollars for vital heart and stroke research. Their contributions help fund earlier diagnoses, better treatments and new insights into prevention.

Join us, and let us show you how you can invest in a heart-healthy Canada.

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are used in combination with CPR to help restore heart rhythm when an individual goes into cardiac arrest. Defibrillation, when used with CPR, can improve cardiac arrest survival to more than 50% if delivered in the first few minutes. The Heart and Stroke Foundation is working with corporate partners to place AEDs in public places such as arenas, recreation centres, curling clubs and libraries in priority communities throughout Ontario. Approximately 40,000 cardiac arrests occur in Canada every year, and for every minute that passes without help, a victim's chance of surviving drops by about 10%. With your continued support and investment, lives can be saved.

Areas of Investment in Mission (AIMs)

Heart and Stroke Foundation AIMs are selected areas of focus that with leadership, significant investment and a cross-Foundation approach, have the potential to significantly reduce the risk of premature death and disability from heart disease and stroke in Ontario. AIM initiatives are linked to a specific cardiovascular health focus, and use the broad scope of the Foundation's competencies in research, advocacy, health promotion and education to affect tangible change on issues central to improving the heart health of Canadians.

Event sponsorship

Ride for Heart
The Becel Ride for Heart is Canada's largest charity cycling event, with more than 13,000 cyclists and in-line skaters participating to raise more than $2 million annually for vital Heart and Stroke Foundation research and health initiatives. This high profile event offers our partners the opportunity to show consumers how they value the heart health of Canadians, while providing valuable opportunities for exposure in key media markets.

Vino della Vita
Vino della Vita is an exclusive wine tasting event held by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario in partnership with the Italian Trade Commission and the Italian Cultural Institute. Featuring more than 80 Italian vintners, gourmet food pairings, as well as a raffle and silent auction, Vino della Vita offers up to 1,200 guests an unparalleled Italian cultural experience. Our event corporate sponsors also enjoy a private, pre-event tasting experience that features a special selection of fine wines and grappa.

Forums for health professionals

The Heart and Stroke Foundation's professional education and networking events, Heart&Stroke Clinical Update and Stroke Collaborative, bring together health care professionals from all over the province. Clinical Update is a three-day event designed to share the most current science and applications in the areas of cerebrovascular and cardiovascular disease with delegates. The one-day Stroke Collaborative symposium provides attendees with the opportunity to stay informed on advances in stroke care and learn practical strategies and implementation practices for their workplaces.

Consumer fundraising promotions

Consumer fundraising promotions offer our corporate partners a tangible way to show their commitment to the Heart and Stoke Foundation throughout the year. Many retailers leverage the Foundation's high profile to run in-store promotions and consumer fundraising campaigns to support Heart and Stroke Foundation research, health promotion and advocacy initiatives. Participating companies demonstrate good corporate citizenship and enjoy a unique engagement opportunity with their customers, while at the same time having a positive impact on the heart health of all Canadians.

Research

The Heart and Stroke Foundation supports research excellence. Our rigorous peer review process ensures we fund only the best minds and the highest-calibre research. Thanks in large part to our research, the mortality rate from heart disease and stroke has decreased by 70% in the last 50 years. But with one in three Canadians still dying from heart disease and stroke today, there is still much more to do. By supporting vital Heart and Stroke Foundation research initiatives, our partners pave the way for the breakthroughs of tomorrow, leading the fight against heart disease and stroke.

Centre for Stroke Recovery

A global first, the Heart and Stroke Foundation Centre for Stroke Recovery has profoundly transformed stroke treatment in Ontario and is leading the way by serving as an example for the global community. This "virtual" Centre of Excellence enables world-class researchers, scientists and clinicians from the Ottawa Health Research Institute, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, and Baycrest to share information, insights and ideas to accelerate the pace of scientific advances in stroke treatment and recovery. Our corporate partners are paving the way for faster design and testing of novel post-stroke interventions.

Diversity initiatives

Many of the diverse communities within Ontario, such as the First Nations, South Asian, Chinese and African-Caribbean communities, have unique heart disease and stroke profiles simply due to their ethnic backgrounds. Corporate partners work with the Heart and Stroke Foundation to support ethnic-specific health promotion initiatives aimed at educating these diverse groups on how to best manage their risk factors and overall cardiovascular health.

Employee giving

There are many ways to encourage your employees to support the Heart and Stroke Foundation: payroll deductions, workplace fundraising events, and corporate group participation in events. Employees can also provide volunteer support for Heart and Stroke Foundation special events or the annual Heart Month Person-to-Person Campaign during the month of February. Your employees have many opportunities to support the Heart and Stroke Foundation and make a difference in the lives of Canadians.
